A game designed to destroy your life on the front page of Hacker News.


It was 2018. The iOS 12 beta had just dropped with a new feature called Shortcuts designed to streamline your digital life and make it better.


But I wanted to see if it could do the opposite. So I created Shortcut Roulette - a game built entirely in the Shortcuts app.

You spin a virtual dice, and this leads to any of 1000’s of random outcomes, including some ‘safety’ numbers.


A post on Hacker News got to the top of the front page. This hundreds of thousands of unique visitors to shortcutroulette.com (the first site I built without WYSIWYG).

Fans contributed hundreds of ideas for new features to an open spreadsheet and I implemented a bunch into the following version.
